Hi Folks!!!
I realize this is a builders Forum, but I thought I would ask everyone that plays guitar which types of music they enjoy playing.
I'm sure there are a bunch of you that not only build nice guitars, but play them as well.
How about sharing some of those great experiences??
Presently i am working on Scott Joplin tunes. Not very easy since they are very difficult and he changed keys several times during the song. This is strictly fingerstyle playing. You probably remember the theme song from the movie "The Sting". That was all Scott Joplin tunes.
Years ago I had a few of those tunes down pat but I haven't played them in years.
Of couese my true love is delta blues.
Just thought I would change the tone of questions and hope you all tell us about your playing favorites.
Thanks, Walter

Yep, I'm firstly a guitarist too. My main love is naturally English traditional and Celtic folk music. However, I'm also keen on Delta blues, particularly from the Mississipi players of the late twenties, Frank Stokes, Jim Jackson, Furry Lewis and the other ragtime/blues transition players. I also like to play contemporary English pieces using a lot of altered tunings particularly of course DADGad. I regularly play both English/Celtic folk (with my wife on fiddle or Northumbrian pipes, and with other friends) and also blues in the clubs over here. We've been recording recently and I'll have a piece (or two) ready to go on the MP3 library soon. (Who knows there may even be some Scott Joplin!) Get recording!

A guitar is just so much fancy kindling until someone plays it.

Colin

Wow trying to pin me down. being a fingerpicker I like almost any thing that has an interesting melody counter melody riff. I play a bit of country, a lot of folk and popular folk and rock. Among my favorites songs to play are "Leader of the Band" done in Drop D tuning and "Longer" done in Std tuning. Both by Dan Folgelberg. When I am in a wild mood or just need to do some finger stretching I have this medley put together of Steve Howe's acoustic lead-in to "Roundabout" followed by Heart's acoustic lead-in of "Crazy on You" ending with the fist 27 measures of "Classical Gas". I swear they sound as if they were written for each other. Give it a try
